○ The structure of aNewSpring
The structure of aNewSpring consists of three concepts. These concepts will be further explained in this article. The following concepts can be distinguished:
- Content libraries
- Templates
- Courses
The video below briefly explains the three concepts of the structure of aNewSpring. These concepts are explained further later in the article.
In aNewSpring you can give users various roles. These roles give the user access to the different concepts that form the structure of aNewSpring. You can read more about the different rights of each role here.
Schematic overview of the structure of aNewSpring
Below you can see the schematic overview of the structure of aNewSpring with the different concepts:
○ Content libraries
Role: Author
The content is separated from the templates. You only have to create content once, in order to use it in multiple templates (learning journeys). You can create content libraries (if you are an administrator) or manage existing content libraries via thetab.
You can add questions, content parts and other content to a content library. These questions and content parts will later become the pages within the activities that you are going to create in the template.
In most cases only one content library is linked to a template. It is also possible to link multiple content libraries to a template.
For example, let's say you are creating a Spanish course and a French course. You would create a separate content library and a separate template for both courses.
Any general information that applies to both courses could be added to another content library, which is linked to both the Spanish and French template. This general content will be the same for both. Any changes made in content will automatically and directly be changed in the templates (and therefore courses).
Structure in the content library
In order to be able to find all content when you are going to use it in activities in the template, it is important to create a good structure in the content library.
In the content library you can create structure by creating folders and placing the content in different folders within the content library.
You can also assign IDs to content parts and questions. The content is then sorted alphabetically by the IDs.
If you edit existing content parts and questions in a content library, these changes are immediately reflected in all templates where this content is used.

○ Templates
Role: Designer
At the tab you can create templates. Templates are the basis of your learning journey. In a template you add blocks with activities that the learner should complete as part of the learning journey (course).
Within the activities that you add to the template, you link the questions and/or content parts that you created in the content library.
Use existing content in a template
In order to be able to use the content in the activities in the template, you have to link the content library to the template. You can link multiple content libraries to one template. And you can link the same content library to multiple templates so you can easily reuse content.
You can use content parts:
- As a page in activities;
- As a description in an hand-in assignment;
- As an explanation at the start of the course or an activity;
- In widgets;
- To display above a block.
You can use questions:
- In different activity types
Create new content in the template
The Designer is able to create and set up templates. If the Designer also has the role of Author in addition to the Designer role, you can also create content parts and questions within the template. The content you create from the template is added to the linked content library.
Please note: content you create within a template is added to the linked content library. Content is not saved in the template itself.
Also when creating content within the template, it is important to create folders in the content library where the content is added, or to select an existing folder to which the content should be added. This way you maintain the structure in your content library. Also add IDs to the new content you create.

○ Courses
Role: Administrator
Once the template is (partially) ready, it can be published. You can create coursesunder a published template. The course is the concept you subscribe the learners to. The learners in the course will see all content and activities that you created in the template.
By creating multiple courses under a template, you can separate different learner (groups) and set different settings per course, even though each learner will go through the same learning journey. For example, you could create a course per class(room), company or learners with different starting moments.
The settings below can differ per course:
- Start and expiry date of the course
- Learners
- Instructors
- (de)Activating activities
