The schematic overview below will help you understand basics the platform structure. The basic structure consist of three concepts:

  • Content libraries
  • Templates
  • Courses

In aNewSpring you can give users various roles, that give access to certain concepts in aNewSpring.

Content library

Role: Author

The content is separated from the templates. You only have to create content once, in order to use it in multiple templates (learning journeys). You can create content libraries (if you are an administrator) or manage existing content libraries via the tab Content.

In the content library you can create questions and content parts and add other content like certificates. This content will later become pages within your activities in the template.

You can create multiple content libraries for different templates. In most cases a template has a corresponding content library. Sometimes content libraries are made thematically and are then used in several templates containing certain themes. For example, let's say you are creating a Spanish course and a Polish course. You would each give them a separate content library. Any general information that applies to both courses could be added to another content library, which is linked to both the Spanish and Polish templates. This general content will be the same for both. Any changes made in content will automatically and directly be changed in the templates (and therefore courses).

It's very important to keep your content libraries clean and organized. This allows you to easily find content in the library. This can be done by creating a folder structure and adding ID's to content parts and questions.

Template

Role: Designer

At the Templates tab you can create templates. Here you can link content libraries to a template, so you can use the created content in the learning journey. You can link single or multiple content libraries to a template. Content parts can be used as:

  • Content pages in activities
  • Assignment description at hand-in assignments
  • Explanation at the start/end of activity or start course
  • Content for widgets
  • Content shown above block

Questions can be used in:

  • In activities

If you have the role of Designer and Author, you can also create content via the template. Important: content you create in a template will be placed in the linked content library. Content is not saved in the template itself. It is recommended to create or select folders when creating content within a template. This will keep your content libraries tidy.

Course

Role: Administrator

When your template is (partially) finished, it can be published. Now you can create courses. Courses contain the actual learners within the learning journey. By adding multiple courses at a template, you can separate different learner (groups) and set different settings per course, even though each learner will go through the same learning journey. For example, you could create a course per class(room), company or learners with different starting moments. The learners are separated through the different courses.

The settings below can differ per course:

  • Start and expiry date
  • Learners
  • Instructors/mentors
  • (De)activating activities
