○ Using and managing files in aNewSpring
In aNewSpring it is possible to use different kinds of files in your courses. You can add these files separately or import multiple files in a content library in your environment.
This article explains what file types you can use, how to import/add files and how to remove files.
Where can I find the file overview?
Go to the Content page and click More next to a content library and then clickFiles.
You can also open a content library by cliciking the Manage button next to a content library. After opening the content library, click the Files tab to see which files already have been uploaded and to upload new files in the content library.

How do I add a file?
Click the button. Select what should happen with the file you upload if there already exists a file with the same file name: Ignore, Overwrite or Rename.
Select the folder where you want to add the file: either Content parts or Questions (here you have the options Images and Sounds). You can also create folders within these folders to create a structure.

From Release 106 (6 August 2024) the Files tab will no longer contain the folders Content parts and Questions when creating a new content library. It is now possible to create your own folder structure to order files in a content library.
In content libraries that have been created before this release, it is also possible to change the folder structure on the Files tab and to rename folders.
Structuring files
On the Files tab you can create folders to structure your files.
It is also possible to move files to other folders.
Renaming files
On the Files tab you can also rename folders and files. Click the More button next to a folder or file and click Rename.
Fill in the new name of the file or folder and click Ok.
Adding tags to files
To create a better structure for your files in a content library, you can add tags to files. Click the next to one of the files on the Files tab of a content library. Then click the +Tag
button to create a new tag. Or select one or more existing tags and click
.
Images added by Designers, Resellers and Tenants can't be tagged.
Using filters on the Files tab
By using the Filter button on the Files tab, you can set up a filter to show for example files that are in use or aren't used (Used/Not used) or based on filters. In this way you can create a clear overview of files for yourself.
Importing files
In aNewSpring you can import a large(r) numbers of files at once into a content library. Read more about this in the following article:
○ Importing and exporting content
Which file types are allowed in aNewSpring?
- Images (.png, .jpg, .gif)
- Sounds (.mp3)
- Flash-movies (.swf)
- Downloadable files (For example .doc, .pdf, .exe, .xlsx)
Note!
Flash files are no longer supported by iOS devices (iPad, iPhone etc.). Possibly, Flash doesn't work properly on other systems as well. We recommend not to use Flash if possible.
Spaces in file names. When there are spaces in file names there is a chance that the image can't be recognized by the system. Preferably replace these spaces by an underscore "_".
Special characters. Also, please check if your file name contains any special characters like &, ?, :, ;, |, \, /, <, >, # because those characters cause images not to be recognized as well and most of the time gives an error. Even so, it is best to check beforehand.
How do I remove files from the content library?
Remove unused files by checking the boxes in front of the file names and clicking on . Files that are in use cannot be removed.
