○ Unlink a course from a learner group
Scenarios
- You have linked a learner group to an incorrect course and you want to unlink this course from the learner group so that learners are no longer subscribed to this course whenyou add them to the learner group.
- You have a learner group that is linked to (old) course that are no longer in use. You want to prevent learners from being subscribed to these courses when you add them to the learner group.
It is not possible to unlink a course from a learner group with one click on the mouse button. However, it is possible with a workaround.
The steps you have to follow are explained below.
Required roles
Administrator
1)Make a copy of the existing learner group
To ensure that the existing learner group continues to exist with the correct learners linked to this group, you first make a copy of this learner group.
The copy of this learner group will not have any courses linked to it yet.
To be sure, check if all learners have been copied correctly to the new learner group. If you copy a learner group with subgroups, the subgroups will not be copied.
2) Link all correct courses to the new learner group
After the copy of the learner group has been created, all courses that should be linked to the learner group, can now be linked to this new learner group. This doesn't need to be done for the courses that shouldn't be linked to the new group anymore.
How to link a course to a learner group is explained in the article below under step b:
○ Course settings - Tab: Learners
3) Unlink the learners from the original learner group
Now the learners have been added to the new learner group and the correct courses are linked to this new learner group, it is time to unlink the learners from the old (original) learner group. Open this learner group via the Users > Groups page. Click Edit next to the learner group to open the group.
Select all learners here and click Remove. A pop-up will appear with different options:
- Only remove the learner from the group;
The susbscriptions on all courses will be saved. - Remove the learner from the group and from the linked (bundle) courses and profiles;
The progress will be saved and the subscription status will change to 'ended'. - Remove the learner from the group, the linked (bundle) courses, profiles and delete the progress of those courses.
In this case the courses that are linked to a group will be removed. All results will be removed.
The subcriptions on courses that were linked to the new learner group in the previous step will be remained. With this action you only determine what should happen with the subscriptions on the courses that are no longer linked to the newly created learner group.
The option you choose, depends on whether the learners should remain subscribed to the courses that are no longer linked to the new learner group and whether the progress on these courses should be saved.
- Select the first option if learners should remain subscribed to the courses, but the courses are no longer linked to the new learner group.
- Choose the second option if the learner should no longer be subscribed to these coures but that progress on these courses should be saved. The subscription status of these courses will change to 'ended'.
- Select option three if the subscription to these courses can be removed and the progress on these courses doesn't have to be saved.
Please note: if you choose the last option and you remove the learners from the courses that are no longer linked to the new learner group, any progress made within these courses will also be deleted. Removed progress is permanent and cannot be restored.
4) Delete the old learner group (optional)
If the new learner group has been set up correctly and you will no longer use the old learner group, you can delete it. This will prevent learners from being added to this group accidentally and being subscribed to the wrong courses when they are added to the learner group.
