Scenarios

  • You want learners to rate themselves on certain skills (and that an assessor rate the same skills for the learner)

Required roles

  • Author (to create the matrix questions)
  • Designer (to add the Assessment or 360° feedback activity to the template)

Assessment activities are self-assessments where you can add content parts and questions without a score. You can link measures to matrix questions: scales that are used to demonstrate the extent to which a learner scores on certain skills.

A 360° feedback activity is the same as a Scan activity, but the 360° feedback activity can be assessed by (external) assessors.

Below you will find a step-by-step explanation how to set up this activity and what the activity and results will look like for the learner.

1) Create measures

In this article you can read under Question type: E-assessment (with measurement units) how to create measures in the content library.

2) Create a matrix question (non scorable)

In this article you can read under Question type: E-assessment (with measurement units) how to create a matrix question without a score, link the measures to each subquestion and give the answers a score.

In this example we will create an activity in which we are going to find out what holiday type person the learners are: summer holiday or winter holiday type. The following measures have been created:

3) Add a Scan or 360° feedback activity to the template

Go to the template where you want to add the Assessment or 360° feedback activity. Click and select the Assessment or 360° feedback activity here. Clickto set up the activity.

If the activity does not need to be assessed by (external) assessors, you can choose the Scan activity.
Choose the 360° feedback activity if the activity also needs to be assessed by (external) assessors.

Setting up the activity

Setting up the 360° feedback activity works the same as the Scan activity.  In the 360° feedback activity you can enable extra settings regards the (external) assessors.

Tab Content

Click Select content under this tab to select your previously created matrix question with measures and add it to the activity. You can also add content parts.
If you haven't created any questions or content parts yet, you can also create these within the activity by using theand buttons.

Tab Properties

Under the Properties tab you can set the default settings for the activity and create a new profile under the Profiles heading.

In the 360° feedback activity you can set up whether external assessors are allowed to assess the activity and enable the option that assessors assess anonymously.

If instructors or external assessors should assess the activity, the option Learning journey with instructors should be enabled on the Template settings page.

Conditions tab

Under the Conditions tab, you can optionally set up conditions for the activity so the activity becomes available after the conditions have been met.

4) Create a profile

You can create a profile under the Properties tab by clicking New profile.

Give the profile a name and optionally add a description. Choose and select the measures that should be linked to the profile. Click Create to create the profile.

Once the Assessment/360° feedback activity has been published, only the name and description of a profile can be changed.
It is no longer possible to (un)link measures to the profile.

What will the learner see?

Your Scan or 360° feedback activity is now completely set up! But what will the learner see?

After starting the activity the learner sees a page with the matrix question. All subquestions of a matrix question are shown on one page:

After submitting the activity, the learner sees the Results page. An overview of the given answers and the scores on the profile and measures are shown:

The percentages show how many per cent a participant scores on the measures of the profile and the score on the profile in total.

360° feedback activity and inviting assessors

Within the 360° learners can invite (external) assessors after completing the activity. The assessors answer the same questions for the learner.
After the learner answered all questions within the activity and clicked the Hand in button, the following page appears:

The learner can select an instructor that is linked to the course or can invite an external assessor (when the option External assessor allowed is enabled). The learner selects the instructor or fills in the data of the external assessor. Then the learner clicks Add invitee.

Now the learner sees the selected assessor(s). By clicking the Send invitations button, the assessors will be invited:

Under Assessors the learner can see the assessors that have been invited. Here the learner can send reminders to these assessors by clicking the Send reminders button. To invite other assessors, the learner clicks Invite assessors:

After an assessor has assessed the activity, the scores on the measures and profile will also appear on the Results page of the learner.

This is what the learner will see:
