Having trouble converting a file?
In this article, you can find some tips and tricks that could help you to convert your file successfully!

Unexpected result

The tool is still in development. If you facing an unexpected result in Word or aNewSpring after converting, please check first if it is a known issue:

This portal lists the known issues and functionalities we are working on. You can leave feedback per item and indicate to what extent the development is important to you.

From Word to aNewSpring

It is not clear in which content part or question the error is found

Usually, the conversion report will tell you exactly in which content part the error is.

If it doesn't, divide your Word file into smaller files. After that, you can convert these smaller files one by one with the Converter.

In this way, you can explore in which part of your complete file the problem could be found that causes the error message.

Did you have to cut up the file? Then send the part where the error is located to the support team. They will in turn forward it to the developer to fix the error.

For one content part, the same error message appears multiple times in the conversion report

Check your question/content part in the Word file and adjust it to the information accompanying the error message. Usually, all error messages are resolved after that.

Send the original question/content part where this occurred to the support team with an indication of the error message. The developers will then fix it.

From aNewSpring to Word

It is not clear in which part the error exactly occurs

When converting an entire content library, you may see a general error message that the entire file cannot be converted.

Usually, the cause is in the use of HTML, see the next heading.

To find out where it goes wrong, export the library in parts and convert the files one by one.

To do this, you can export certain folders of content and individual questions/content parts. See for this step 2 in Convert aNewSpring content to Word.

Did you have to split the library? Then send the original question/content part where the problem occurred to the support team. Our developers will then provide a solution so that it will nothappen again.

HTML-related error messages

If you have copied and pasted text from elsewhere into aNewSpring, without clearing the formatting, this may cause content conversion problems.

The conversion report shows the ID and name of the question/content part where the problem occurs.

Click at every text onin the text editor to see if there is HTML anywhere that could potentially cause problems and remove it. To do this, you can also use the clear formatting icon:

In HTML, a paragraph of text is always between one <p> </p> or <div> </div> tag to ensure that the text gets the correct formatiing. If you see several of these tags per paragraph, you can remove them.

Can't spot any 'strange' HTML? Then forward the question/content part to the support team and ask them for help.

Question type is not supported

If you see this on questions that are normally supported, such as multiple choice questions, then your export contains questions that have not been updated since 2016.

Questions from before that date do not yet contain the correct information in the question data. The Converter can not recognise the question type then, and an error is shown.

The easiest way is to do the following:

  1. Export the questions.
  2. Import the questions again in the same library and overwrite the existing questions. This will update the question data.

If it still doesn't work...

Still running into problems after following these tips and after reading other articles about the Converter?

Then send your file to support@anewspring.com and one of our Support Heroes will help you further along the way!

Then make sure your file is shortened into a smaller file in which the content is added that causes the error message. Then it is easier for our Support Heroes to find the exact cause of the error message.
