○ Create a certificate in LibreOffice/OpenOffice Draw (with example files)
One of the tools that you can use to create certificate PDF files is LibreOffice Draw. LibreOffice is free and you can download it here.
You can also use OpenOffice Draw. This software is nearly identical and works with the same file types. Right now we recommend LibreOffice, because OpenOffice can give some problems with the placement of images in the files.
During writing this article LibreOffice Draw version 7.0.0.3 is used. It is possible that settings and buttons are placed somewhere else or are named differently in other version of LibreOffice Draw.
We have created a few certificate template files that can be used for testing and are easy to edit:

How to place your own logo
- Start by opening the "editable file" in Draw. The file type is ODG.
- Click on the placeholder and press the Delete key.
- In the menu bar, click Insert, then Image and From file....
- Select your logo and click Open.
- You can now resize the logo and move it into the desired position.
How to add (or edit) fillable text fields
Draw calls these fields Form controls.
- First make sure that the Form controls toolbar is visible. In the menu bar, go to View, Toolbars and make sure Form controls has a check mark.
- In the Form controls toolbar, enable Design mode:
- You can now click on existing text fields to select them or add a new one with this option:
- Right click on the text field and click Control....
- The first option under the General tab is Name. This is where you enter the code to indicate which information you want to add to this field, for example fullName. In this article, you will find an overview of all the codes you can use.
- There are other settings under the General tab, like Font and Border, that you might like to edit.
Export the file as PDF.
When the certificate looks right, you can export it and then test it in aNewSpring. This is quite easy to do:
- In the menu bar, click File.
- Then click Export as PDF.
- The default settings are usually fine. When you use a specif fonts for the fields, you can choose the option Embed standard fonts in OpenOfficeDraw.
Also make sure the option Create PDF form has been enabled.
Click Export to save the file as PDF.
