○ Using the text-to-speech function (ReadSpeaker)
Scenarios
- You want to give learners with dyslexia or visual impairment the possibility to have the texts of questions and content parts read aloud.
- You want to add PDFs to the content and give learners the option of having the text read aloud.
- Your learners are often on the road. Give them the option of downloading the content in a spoken form, so that they can study the material offline.
Contact aNewSpring
aNewSpring and ReadSpeaker integrate perfectly, but ReadSpeaker is an independent company. So, if you want to use ReadSpeaker inside aNewSpring, you need to become a customer at Readspeaker first. If you want more information on how this works, please contact our sales team (sales@anewspring.com) and we'll facilitate an introduction.
WebReader
Text within content parts and questions can be read out loud using the Webreader. Learners see a ReadSpeaker icon, clicking on it will open a player.
You can find a demonstration of this on the ReadSpeaker website.
DocReader
With the WebReader, it is not possible to have text read out loud within a pdf file that you show in a content area with the Google Docs or Microsoft Office player.
If you use PDFs a lot in your content, you can also purchase the ReadSpeaker DocReader. This gives you an extra plus in the plus editor to upload your PDFs. In this reader, learners have the option to have the text of the pdf file read aloud.
Start using the read-aloud function
Once you are a customer of ReadSpeaker, you can find the Customer ID and, if you have one, a DocReader ID in your account settings of ReadSpeaker.
Pass them on to our support team via a ticket and we will activate ReadSpeaker in your learning environment.
Once the support team has set up your ReadSpeaker data in aNewSpring, the ReadSpeaker function is visible in several places:
In the content library
If you test content parts or questions as an author, you will be able to use this feature.
ReadSpeaker supports more languages than aNewSpring. Therefore, on the settings tab of the content library, you can choose the language with which the content text should be read out.
In the template/learning journey
Enable the feature per template in the Template settings. Then, as a designer, you can test the template to see ReadSpeaker in action.
