Using files in aNewSpring

Last modified: 2016-05-09 10:08:21 +0200

In aNewSpring it is possible to use different kinds of files in your courses. These files first have to be added or imported into your environment. This article explaines what file types you can use, how to import/add files and how to remove files in aNewSpring.

Where can I find the file overview?

There are two ways to find the file overview. You can either navigate via More and then select Files:

Or via Manage and navigating to the tab Files:

How do I add a file?

Click on the folder where you want to add the file. Either Content parts or Questions (here you have the options Images and Sounds). When selected, click on +File.
Choose the file which you want to upload in the new pop-up screen. Also choose which action should be undertaken when the file allready exists in the content library. When ready, click on Upload.
Do you want to change the location? Then click on Location and choose another folder.

Importing files

In aNewSpring you can import large(r) numbers of files at once into a content library. Read more about this in the following article: 'Importing and exporting content'.

Which file types are allowed in aNewSpring?

  • Images (.png, .jpg, .gif)
  • Sounds (.mp3)
  • Flash-movies (.swf)
  • Downloadable files (For example .doc, .pdf, .exe, .xlsx)

Note!

Flash files are no longer supported by iOS devices (iPad, iPhone etc.). Possibly, Flash doesn't work properly on other systems as well. We recommend not to use Flash if possible.

Spaces in file names. When there are spaces in file names there is a chance that the image can't be recognized by the system. Preferably replace these spaces by an underscore "_".

Special characters. Also, please check if your file name contains any special characters like &, ?, :, ;, |, \, /, <, >, # because those characters cause images not to be recognized as well and most of the time gives an error. Even so, it is best to check beforehand.

How do I remove files from the content library?

Remove unused files by checking the boxes in front of the file names and clicking on Remove or the red cross. Files that are in use cannot be removed.

Tip: Would you like to use a file somewhere else? Click with your right mouse button on a file and choose Copy link address. Next you can use the link in the HTML mode.
